Every kitesurfer has a dream…. My dream ever since I have been a small girl, growing up in beautiful, however, landlocked Austria, was to one day travel to the other side of the World and to explore ‘the last paradise’ (as New Zealand is known as in Europe). I have heard so much about New Zealand, seen so many breathtaking photos, I soooo much wished for having the chance of one day checking it out myself. My passion for waves and of course kitesurfing had stimulated this wish even more over the last years, NZ’s stunning coastline with so many world-famous breaks just like the ‘outdoor-adrenalin-spirit’ of the local population boosted it right on top of my ‘wish-trip-list’, this year, my dream should become reality.
My trip to New Zealand was originally planned to be 5 weeks. Touring in a campervan, and being totally overwhelmed by the country and its inhabitants, 5 weeks turned into 3 months and 14.000km on the road, once around the south island, once around the north island!
In this feature, in the series of my column “Kite & the Planet” in the leading german magazine: Kiteboarding.de, you can read Part 1 about the beginning of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure and the first few thousand kilometres around the south island of beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeautiful kiwi-paradise 🙂 Part 2 will follow in one of the upcoming issues, don’t miss it!
