Mauritius, a pearl in the Indian Ocean. A true paradise island and heaven for water sports-enthusiasts. I had the honour of being invited to an event there first time in 2004, feeling privileged about having been reinvited since then three times. Thus Mauritius feels kind of ‘home’ by now and every time I leave, I feel horribly homesick a few weeks later…

The island has become more and more popular over the last years and kitesurfers are taking over the previously windsurf-dominated spots. There is conditions for everyone around the island, the north and the west boosts perfect freestyle conditions, the east endless downwinders and the south big wave-action. Unfortunately paradise lures with such thrilling natural-attractions that every year many kitesurfers overestimate their skills and underrate power of the elements…
