The Cape Verde islands are a small archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic, 1,500 kilometres south of the Canary Islands and approximately 450 kilometres off the western coast of Senegal. It is formed by 10 main islands of which all are volcanic, but an active volcano exists only on one of the islands, Fogo. Sal is touristically the most developed island for the time being, although ‘developed’ gets a new meaning here…
I spent already twice European spring on Sal and know the island pretty well. This time of the year is favorable not only because of wind- and swell statistics but also as it’s the time of Carnival and believe me, Cape Verdean Carnival is uniquely unforgettable!
In this article I cover all spots, aimed at freestyle- as well as wave-enthusiasts plus insider tips & no wind activities as well as useful facts for visitors.
