Margarita island was the place where I spent my first couple of months kiting – practising for my first World Cup competition – two years ago (winter 2002/03). I was excited coming back to see what has changed and to meet old friends again. The locals all know me as a pretty crazy chick, who came here all on her own, just managing going upwind but obsessed with the idea of competing in the World Cup.
Yeah, El Yaque was the place where I really learnt … where I did my first jumps, where I crashed my first (brand new) kite, a North Rhino 2. For the ones who know the Rhino 2 and especially the ones who also know El Yaque conditions: well, you can imagine how easy it must have been learning here 😉 ..!? but I did it and came back this year for some more training in anticipation of the World Cup on Coche island, the island just opposite Margarita.
